AVONGATE VENUS is the Time Greyhound Nutrition Greyhound of the Month for September after Phil Milner’s bitch, owned by Sean O’Connor, equalled the track record on route to winning the Bet365 Empress Stakes at Towcester.
It was a superb field for the Category One bitches-only final and Avongate Venus, a January 22 daughter of Droopys Sydney and Droops Ring, had to produce her best to lead home Icemans Girl, Droopys Eunice and New Destiny in the Towcester decider.
In landing the award, Avongate Venus edged out Droopys Clue (Seamus Cahill), Druids Say Go (Patrick Janssens), Fabulous Dyna (Laurence Tuffin), Fire And Ice (Matt Dartnall), Greenwell Coe (Tom Heilbron), Rioja Bungle (Kevin Hutton) and Southfield Poppy (Kevin Hutton) in a classy month for big-race winners.
