COONOUGH CROW is the Time Greyhound Nutrition Greyhound of the Month for May after an unbeaten run through the Ladbrokes Kent Leger at Crayford.
Trained by Mark Wallis for the MWD Partnership, the October 2020 daughter of Eden The Kid and Coonough Dolly raced five times during the month with a trio of victories added to by successes at Towcester and Romford for the perfect sequence in the four-week period.
Voted for by members of the Greyhound Writers’ Association in the UK, Coonough Crow edged out fellow nominees King Memphis (Liz McNair), Queen Georgia (Liz McNair), Rioja Bungle (Kevin Hutton), Swords Rex (Graham Holland) and The Other Kobe (Graham Holland) in what was a particularly tight month.
Time Greyhound Nutrition’s Willie Rigney said: “Once again it was a classy list of nominations with plenty of interest around the (Star Sports/TRC) English Greyhound Derby – but as far as I understand it, it was our own (Time Greyhound Nutrition) 3 Steps To Victory winner Queen Georgia who pushed Crow closest in the vote.
“Liz McNair’s bitch was brilliant at Sheffield, but then so, too, was Coonough Crow who’s been showing some of the best form of her career. Well done to Mark Wallis and all the team at Imperial Kennels.”
Danny Rayment, Crayford racing manager, paid his own tribute to Coonough Crow after landing what was a second Category One success of her career after the 2023 (Arena Racing Company) Grand Prix at Sunderland.
“She absolutely deserves the Time Greyhound Nutrition Greyhound of the Month award,” said Rayment. “Her performance in winning the Ladbrokes Kent Leger here was brilliant. She had to come from off the pace to first catch Baywatch Bullet and then keep Dazl Rolex at bay, so reversed (Premier Greyhound Racing) Golden Jacket form in the process.
“All round, it was probably the best win of her career – it was never straightforward but just underlined how well she was running then, and afterwards, of course.”
